Description

Play as Scott the One Winged Fly and get food for your fly brethren. You only have a limited time before they starve, and you’re not the best flier with only one wing. Try out 5 single player levels, and the VS mode!

Thoughts

It was freshman year of college, and the first game jam of the year was coming up. The jam was called an “Asset Jam”, where they provided assets like art and audio people could use to make games. This was to save time, but also for beginners that have never done a jam.

I had some experience though and wanted to experiment. I had mostly only used GameMaker, and my college and other colleagues mainly used Unity, so this was a perfect opportunity to try it out. But I wasn’t quite sure what the game should be about. Than when sitting outside and chatting with friends, a fly with only 1 wing landed on a chair, and they named it Scott. At that point, I knew exactly what I was making for the jam.

I went home, got my roommate on board as the artist, told him the idea, and we got to work. In the game, you play as Scott, and have to find food for your fly family, but you’re not the best flier. There are 5 single player levels, and a versus mode, where players compete to get the most food!

This was not only my first Unity game released, but also my first 3D game! So that’s the story of a real fly, who inspired this game.
